Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells is endorsing County Commissioner Mike Rahn for re-election to the Manatee County Commission.

Wells praised Rahn for his support for public safety resources.

“Commissioner Mike Rahn is a Marine Corps veteran, a relentless fighter, and exactly the kind of leader Manatee County needs,” Wells said. “Since taking office, Mike has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with law enforcement, supporting the resources we need to keep families safe. Mike doesn’t just talk about public safety. He delivers. I’m proud to endorse him for re-election.”

Rahn served 13 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, both on active duty and in the reserves, including service during Operation Desert Storm. He earned multiple meritorious citations before being honorably discharged.

Since joining the County Commission, Rahn has made public safety a central part of his re-election pitch. His campaign said he voted to fully fund the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and supported the installation of about 3,000 new streetlights to improve public safety across the county in a tangible way. Rahn also highlights his support for law enforcement investments, infrastructure, flood protection and transportation, as well as work to hold the line on taxes and unnecessary spending.

“I’m honored to have the support of Sheriff Rick Wells, who has dedicated his career to protecting Manatee County families,” Rahn said.

“As a Marine, I learned that keeping people safe starts with leadership, discipline, and giving the men and women on the front lines the tools they need to do the job. That is exactly what I have fought for as Commissioner, and I will continue standing with Sheriff Wells, our deputies, and every law enforcement officer working to keep Manatee County safe.”

Rahn has worked in the residential mortgage industry for more than 29 years in the Manatee-Sarasota market, where his campaign said he has helped hundreds of residents become homeowners. He previously served on the Manatee County Planning Commission, and has held leadership roles with the Manatee-Sarasota Building Industry Association, the Florida Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders. In 2017, he was elected by his peers to the Florida Housing Hall of Fame.

Rahn also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Safe Children Coalition, which serves at-risk children and families in Manatee, Sarasota and DeSoto counties. He also serves as Vice Chair of the SCC Foundation and is a member of the organization’s finance and philanthropic committees.

He has two sons and two grandchildren. Outside of work, Rahn enjoys golf, travel and spending time with family and friends.

Rahn is running for re-election in Manatee County against community advocate Glen Gibellina in the Republican Primary, with write-in candidate Allison Sneed also qualifying in the race.
