New polling from Stetson University’s Center for Public Opinion Research shows Republicans who have made their minds up ahead of August gubernatorial primary are largely locked in behind Byron Donalds.
A solid 38% of those polled from March 25 to April 13 say they support the Donald Trump–backed Congressman from Naples.
Yet even more of those GOP likely voters surveyed either don’t know who they want or want someone else who isn’t on the ballot with Donalds and his three major opponents: former House Speaker Paul Renner, Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, or James Fishback.
While they are at 7%, 6%, and 5% respectively, 28% of the other Republican likely voters haven’t decided who they like, and 17% back “other” candidates.
In other words, 45% of them are up for grabs, presuming First Lady Casey DeSantis doesn’t enter the race at the last minute to take many of those not sold on these four men.
Renner and Collins, the latter of whom claims to be at 18% in his own internal polling, have said voters are just tuning into the race now. Their numbers may seem meager. But they are among the stronger ones for either political veteran, both of whom have angled for the endorsement of outgoing Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Donalds continues to dominate in fundraising and earned national media, with the other three major candidates far behind in those metrics just like in polls.
