NRCC puts Jared Moskowitz, Darren Soto on blast for votes against tax cuts ahead of filing day

House Republicans put two Florida Democrats on blast for voting against tax cuts with ads hitting just as voters file returns.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) launched paid video ad campaigns against U.S. Reps. Jared Moskowitz and Darren Soto, both Democratic incumbents on a list of targets in this year’s Midterms.

“This tax day, remember who made it worse,” a narrator states over images of voters thumbing through financial paperwork.

The 30-second spot then cuts to President Donald Trump signing the One Big Beautiful Bill, which made expiring taxes from his first term permanent and implemented policies like no federal tax on tips or overtime.

The ads, with separate cuts targeting Moskowitz and Soto and their voters, highlight that both Democrats voted against the tax package. Since Trump’s tax cuts would have expired without the bill, the ad notes each Democrat “voted for the largest tax hike since World War II.”

The ad then says the lawmakers voted alongside liberal lawmakers, including U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent, and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat and leader of the left-wing Squad.

Each lawmaker “sided with Bernie & AOC to vote against critical tax relief for you.

Higher costs. Less freedom. More pressure on you.”

It closes by tying the votes to the tax rates impacting voters now. The Democrats “voted to make your life harder,” the narrator states. “This Tax Day, don’t forget.”

NRCC’s Maureen O’Toole said the tax vote should make the lawmakers vulnerable with voters,

“Out of touch Democrat Jared Moskowitz made a choice: higher taxes, tighter budgets, and more pain for working families. Voters will make theirs,” she said in a statement.

She issued a later near-identical statement that put the same onus on Soto.

Of note, both lawmakers defended votes against the tax package last year. Moskowitz, at the time, called the legislation “a complete disaster.” Soto more recently posted: “Florida will have to slash about 15% from its Medicaid budget due to Trump’s Big Ugly Law this year.”
