On June 5, professionals from Deloitte offices across Florida stepped away from their desks and volunteered with local charities and nonprofits as part of Impact Day, an annual day of service that helps create positive impact for local communities and residents.

Drawing on more than 180 years of purpose-driven client service, Deloitte’s Impact Day commitment is both broad and local. A large contingent of Florida professionals volunteered this year to support local youth, families and nonprofit organizations. Nationwide, Deloitte professionals donated their time to nearly 1,400 Impact Day projects in 100 U.S. cities.

“Impact Day is a powerful reminder that our purpose comes to life through action,” said David Friedman, principal at Deloitte Consulting LLP. “For over 20 years, our professionals have used their time and talents to strengthen the communities where they live and work, building meaningful connections and supporting organizations they are passionate about.”

In Tallahassee, the Deloitte team sorted donations at The Salvation Army to support families facing immediate hardship.

“Volunteering with The Salvation Army gave us a chance to contribute to an organization that provides critical assistance to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances,” said Brittney Austin, senior manager at Deloitte Consulting LLP. “Knowing that our efforts can help resources reach people when they need them most makes this day especially rewarding.”

Deloitte’s Tampa and Orlando offices marked this year’s Impact Day by mobilizing approximately 500 volunteers across 19 service projects. Some colleagues also participated in Tampa-based activities and virtual volunteering opportunities with national mentoring organizations.

Working alongside community organizations, including Feeding Tampa Bay, Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center, Girls Inc. Sarasota, Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough, Goodwill Industries, Children’s Cancer Center, 1Voice Foundation, Quantum Leap Farm and Disabled American Veterans, Deloitte professionals took part in warehouse sorting, food pantry support, landscaping, painting, camp assistance, pet enrichment and disaster kit assembly.

In Orlando, teams continued a multiyear relationship with Zebra Youth, painting a mural and improving the organization’s space to help create a more welcoming environment for the young people it serves.

“Zebra Youth is such a vital resource in the Orlando community,” said Michael Nunes, analyst at Deloitte Consulting LLP. “We wanted to help create a space that reflects the care and support they provide every day.”

Another Orlando effort mobilized 75 volunteers across three shifts to support The WASH Foundation. Teams sorted and recycled soap and hygiene products, helping expand access to basic sanitation resources for vulnerable populations worldwide.

“This is a simple, hands-on way for our team to be part of something much bigger,” said Ned Braff, specialist at Deloitte Consulting LLP. “I’ve been volunteering with The WASH Foundation for several years, and seeing their work up close makes it personal. Access to basic hygiene is fundamental to health and dignity, and it’s powerful to know our time can help extend that to people who need it most.”

In Jacksonville, approximately 100 Deloitte professionals volunteered at the Jacksonville Humane Society, the American Heart Association and St. Johns Riverkeeper to address a range of community needs. Activities included river cleanups, animal care support and CPR and AED certification training for community members.

“We’ve developed lasting relationships with these organizations, and their commitment to protecting our environment, supporting animal welfare and equipping our neighbors with lifesaving skills really resonates with our people,” said Camille Montanez, Senior One Team Ambassador at Deloitte Services LP. “Impact Day gives us a chance not only to give back, but to be present in those moments that remind us why this work matters.”

Deloitte professionals in Miami once again spent Impact Day with The Posse Foundation supporting students preparing for college. Volunteers led workshops on time management, wellness, active listening and goal setting while introducing Deloitte’s Business Chemistry framework to help students better understand collaboration styles in professional settings.

“Mentoring students, especially those who are the first in their families to attend college, is incredibly meaningful,” said Sajeev Vasavan, senior manager at Deloitte Consulting LLP. “Many of us have benefited from mentorship ourselves. Impact Day is an opportunity to repay that debt of gratitude and help students build confidence as they take on new challenges.”

While each project reflected the unique needs of its community, the common thread was the connection between colleagues, nonprofits and the people they serve.

Impact Day is part of Deloitte’s broader, year-round commitment to volunteerism and pro bono efforts in the communities where its professionals live and work. For many participants, the day also offered an opportunity to step outside their usual roles, collaborate with colleagues and contribute directly to organizations making a difference in their communities.
